Dr Robert Cart, Director
Robert Cart is Director of the Cali School of Music and Professor of Music. As Director, he has raised the bar of musical excellence by expanding opportunities for scholarships, recruitment activities, the roster of visiting artists, and the graduate string quartet-in-residence. Before joining Montclair State, Mr Cart served as Dean of Rowan University’s College of Fine and Performing Arts, where he acquired renowned art collections, led the university to become an All-Steinway School, engaged internally recognized visiting artists, and developed the Rowan Preparatory School and the Glassboro Fine and Performing Arts Academy. He has also served as Associate Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Music and Theater Arts at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. Mr Cart has sung more than 15 leading tenors roles with opera companies internationally. He has performed at Carnegie Hall (premiering works by Gary Schocker and Roger Hudson), Alice Tully Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Philip’s Collection and the White House. He has sung as soloist with the Indianapolis and Baltimore Symphonies under Bernstein, Leppard and Zinman. Mr Cart has also performed nationally as a flutist. He attended the Britten-Pears School for Advanced Musical Studies in Aldeburgh, England, and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Maryland, a Master of Music degree from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from DePauw University.
