David Chan was selected in 2016 to lead The Montclair Orchestra into its inaugural 2017-18 season and to oversee the new ensemble’s artistic development. Widely recognized as a brilliant violinist and one of the leading musicians of his generation, Mr. Chan has been the concertmaster of the renowned MET Orchestra since 2000, and has worked with many of the most famous names in classical music including James Levine, Yo-Yo Ma, Joyce Di Donato, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Lang Lang. He is also the artistic director of Musique et Vin au Clos Vougeot, a unique summer festival in the Burgundy region of France pairing fine wine with music performed by internationally acclaimed musicians. Equally noted as a teacher, Mr. Chan is on the faculty of The Juilliard School and the Mannes School of Music, as well as at prominent international festivals such as Verbier in Switzerland and Pacific Music Festival in Japan. A San Diego native, Mr. Chan is a graduate of Harvard University and The Juilliard School.
