Montclair, NJ – The Montclair Orchestra is pleased to announce that Dr. Thomas Parente has been elected to the Board of Directors.
Dr. Parente is a faculty member and an Associate Professor at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, and a long-time Montclair resident. A well-known and respected pianist, composer and clinician, Dr. Parente is the author of several books and texts for musicians including The Evolving Class Pianist (Linus, 2012), "How to Teach Group Piano Successfully through Flow" (Linus, 2008), and piano pedagogy book The Positive Pianist: How Flow Can Bring Passion to Practice and Performance (Oxford University Press, 2015). “Bringing Dr. Parente into the organization is directly in line with our interests of taking a leading role in educational partnerships to develop opportunities for music students in the region” says Montclair Orchestra President Andre Weker. The orchestra is in discussion with partner universities and conservatories to establish formalized fellowship opportunities for students from schools including Montclair State University/Cali School of Music; Rutgers University/Mason Gross School for the Arts; The Juilliard School; and Mannes School of Music.
As a frequent clinician, Dr. Parente presents workshops, courses, and clinics across the United States, as well as across the globe in England, Austria, Portugal, Brazil, Australia, Italy and Greece. He is the composer in residence for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Montclair, a special adviser to the Music In Montclair concert series, and maintains an active studio of private piano students in his Montclair home.
